I am a UK taxpayer and I understand that if I pay less Income and /or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in the relevant tax year, it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

The Gift Aid claimed will be used to help fund the work of UK Care for Children.

Got questions? We've got answers

Can I donate items like clothing, blankets or toys?

No, we are not taking clothing because customs regulations, fumigation of second-hand items, transport and communications make the process of exporting second hand items very complicated, time-consuming and expensive.

It is much easier to buy these items (with the money our supporters donate) in the countries where they are needed. It reduces the cost to UKC4C, helps stimulate local markets and economies, and we can be sure that the goods that we source are appropriate – both for the local environment and the local cultures.

What is Gift Aid and do I qualify for it?

Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your donation – at no extra cost to you. If you pay tax in the United Kingdom, UK Care for Children can reclaim the basic rate tax (25%) on your gift.

So, if you donate £100, it is worth £125 to UK Care for Children.

In order for us to reclaim the tax you have paid on your donations, you must have paid income or capital gains tax (in the UK) for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) at least equal to the tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

What is the Gift Aid Declaration?

A Gift Aid declaration is a statement by an individual taxpayer that they want a charity to receive the tax paid on their donation back from the government.

The declaration does not commit you to anything – it just ensures that if you choose to donate to UK Care for Children, we can claim an extra 25% back from the government.
