76-year-old Manwah, Burj Shemali camp

“Eid Al Adha was the last time I ate meat. Thank you my Lord!”

Manwah is 76-years-old and lives alone in Burj Shemali camp in Lebanon. Manwah has been blind from birth and is not able to afford the care she needs for everyday activities. Without a steady income, she also goes without the medical treatment she needs for hypertension.

Her home consists of one room, a kitchen and a bathroom, with no heating, a leaky roof and inadequate sewerage and plumbing.

“In winter time, the rain leaks through the walls of the house, and I’m forced to crawl along the floor to wipe the water away and dry the ground,” she told us.

“I have no hot water to take a bath; every time I need to shower I heat some water on the gas stove and carry it to the bathroom. I am always worrying about my situation”

Thousands of elderly and vulnerable refugees across the Middle East are facing a life marred by poverty and insecurity. UK Care for Children works to provide individuals and families across refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan with urgent relief throughout the year.
